What is therapy?
Therapy is a safe, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, relationships, experiences and anything in between, with a qualified professional.
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons—whether it’s developing coping strategies, reflection, feeling stuck, needing guidance, or dealing with specific mental health challenges. The end goal? Working towards feeling like a better version of yourself, whatever that looks like to you.
Therapy gives you somewhere to vent, unload, process, and most importantly, feel heard and understood.
Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face therapy?
Yep, studies show that online therapy is as effective as traditional face to face therapy. Online therapy also has the added benefits of being more accessible, you can have sessions from the comfort of your sofa, meaning less travel and more flexibility.

How often should I have online therapy?
As much as you'd like! It's up to you, your needs, your schedule, your budget. We're big believers in ensuring online therapy works for you. Which is why we don't have any lock in subscriptions, you just pay for a session as and when you need one.
Some people find weekly online therapy sessions useful when starting out while others prefer fortnightly or monthly as they progress. Your therapist can also work with you to figure out what feels right.
How do I know if I need online therapy?
People often associate needing therapy with hitting rock bottom or being in crisis mode, but it's not always the case. There are a lot of reasons why people start therapy:
• Feeling overwhelmed: Anxiety, stress, depression, or emotional exhaustion and burnout.
• Struggling with daily life: When simple tasks feel too hard to manage.
• Relationship issues: Trouble navigating family, friendships, or romantic relationships.
• Feeling stuck: Lacking motivation or direction.
• Past trauma: Unresolved issues affecting your present day.
• Seeking personal growth: Wanting to better understand yourself and improve your mental well-being.
Any reason is a good reason to start therapy. Being curious about therapy is a good indication that is perhaps something you need and want to explore.
Sometimes it's just about finding a safe space to vent objectively, gain new perspectives and talk it out.

How do I find the right therapist?
Choosing a therapist is personal. It’s about finding someone who makes you feel safe and comfortable enough to open up. With emote Care, you can use our advanced filters to narrow down therapists who match your preferences—whether that’s their therapeutic approach, specialisms like anxiety, depression, or ADHD, or even someone who better understands your cultural needs.
And the best part? You can book a free 15-minute intro call with a therapist to chat and see if they feel like the right fit for you.
Need more guidance on finding the right therapist? Please check here.
How do I know if a therapist is qualified and verified?
Rest assured that every therapist on emote Care has been checked and verified by us. We ask therapists for proof of their qualifications, identity and professional memberships when they apply to join the platform.
On therapists profiles you will see their professional memberships listed (BACP, NCPS, UKCP).
Therapists do not have to register with one of the above organisations, but they will not be listed on our platform without relevant proof of qualifications.
Your mental health is serious so it's important you work with trusted professionals. You're in safe hands here.
What is a 15 minute intro call and how is it useful?
A free 15-minute intro call is a great way to see if a therapist is right for you before committing to paying for a session. It’s a bit like ‘try before you buy’ for online therapy. It's essentially an informal chat to ask the necessary questions and see if you connect with a therapist.
We definitely recommend it before diving straight in! You can also have as many intro calls with different therapists as you like, until you find a therapist who feels right for you.

Costs & payments of online therapy
How much will online therapy cost me?
How do payments work?
What if I can’t afford online therapy?
How much will online therapy cost me?
The cost of online therapy will depend on factors such as a therapist's session rates and number of sessions you have. Currently, the average session price on emote Care is £57 a session. However, therapists set their own rates so you will find therapists offering sessions as low as £35 (and sometimes even lower). You can find session prices on each therapist's profile.
How do payments work?
Payments are made via Stripe, a trusted global provider. You can also pay using a credit or debit card, or Apple Pay. Sessions are pay-as-you-go—there are no recurring monthly payments, just book a session whenever you need it.
What if I can’t afford online therapy?
We know that online therapy can be expensive, and we believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health support. That's why we created our Help Someone Heal initiative.
Every month, we give away four free therapy sessions to clients who need support but may not have the financial means to access it. If you’d like to learn more about how Help Someone Heal works, you can find all the details here.
Remember, you’re not locked into any subscriptions so if you can afford therapy a couple times a month, rather than every week it's okay to take that approach, talk to your therapist and let them know what works for you.
